One Deep Breath-Recipe

southern style big boys~
pluck from the vine, slice thinly
sprinkle with sugar and salt

Every summer, my wonderful neighbor shares the bounty from his tomato patch. A couple of times a week, he crosses the street, large paper sack in hand, filled with tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers for me. He always has a pocket full of Magic and Molly's favorite biscuits as well. We have a nice chat, and then I slice up a plate of warm tomatoes, and sprinkle them with sugar and salt, just the way my grandma did. Yum :)

My favorite recipe, minus the sugar, and those sure looked good.

Where was your Grandmother from? My family in Oklahoma does the same with tomatoes. Nice haiku!

There is nothing sweeter than big, fat garden grown tomatoes. Yummy. And how nice that your neighbor brings treats for your dogs.

  11. Oy, yoy, yoy! Each prompt response this week is a (sweet) torture. I.e., food I can't eat, for one reason or another. I love tomatoes this way, but I break out in hives. Thanks, though, for a lovely recipe and picture. :-)

  13. Reminds me of childhood back East. All we needed was a salt shaker with our tomatoes! Those were the days ;)

  14. Sugar? Hmmm. Haven't tried it like that. I, too, have a neighbor who trots over two or three times a week for several weeks, giving us delicious tomoatoes. Nice poem.
