One Deep Breath-Viewpoint
aloft among clouds
home remains
a distant dream
We fly a lot, commuting to Florida by air like some Michigander's do to their summer cottages "up north." I can't say I like flying...I endure it, because it gets me where I want to go quickly. Tonight's flight home was one of those particularly grueling ones. The plane was packed, the cooling system wasn't working too well, they made us board really early, and a child screamed incessantly for about 45 minutes at the beginning and end of the flight.
From my vantage point, I could see the plane's wing, skimming the tops of fluffy white clouds that floated endlessly across the horizon. On another night, I might have found more beauty in that sight. Tonight, I just wanted to be home, and it seemed terribly far away.

Love the 'ku, Becca. I too just tolerate (barely) flying. xx, JP
Ahhh! It makes me shake just reading this!
I'm terrified, petrified to fly!
I'm sorry you had a rough trip.
Get some rest.
(still shaking!)lol
I know the thought of wanting to just be home. I hope you can now relax and enjoy your own bed and surroundings.
Hope your feeling better.
I'm glad you're home and hopefully completely recovered from your tangle with the fire ants.
I, too, just tolerate flying (and for the same reason as you, I do it because it gets me where I'm going faster--more time to spend with the loved ones at the other end). I always feel like I'm sitting in a closet when flying; I'm so short that I can't see over the tops of the seats, so my view is whatever is in my row (and that usually doesn't include the window).
You've taken the dark side and turned it to light by using it in your haiku...I like that! :D
I hate flying, I knew exactly what you were feeling them moment I read your haiku. Glad you made it to your destination safely.
Yikes! Your haiku was very expressive of that flight and you just wanting to get home. XXOO
I know just how you feel! I fly as rarely as possible and don't enjoy it though I do like looking down onto the clouds!
Your haiku had such emotion to it... I remember being on those long flights from overseas just wishing with all my might to get home and in my own bed.
Flying is not one of my favorite things, either... I'd rather drive!
I actually enjoy flying but there have been those moments when I could totally identify with your haiku!
Becca,
Flying is one of the few things I do repeatedly that brings me no pleasure. The air service has worsened, making an intolerable circumstance less. I empathize completely with your cogent haiku.

the thought of flying makes me want to crawl into bed...and it used to be fun...truly falls into the category of a necessary evil. sometimes (for me, almost all the times) it's good to be home.
The poem and photo were wonderful, your flight story chilled me. I nearly lost it the last flight I took, (yet I had flown before) I felt like I was going to start freaking out -- and it was a short flight and my husband wants to visit England next year (his former home) -- all the way from Seattle... I try not to think about it, but I know after that last flight they will have to knock me out. . .
Lovely poem. I too must endure flying - At one point in my life, as a correspondent I was on a plane practically every week and it didn't bother me. Now I really hate and dread flying. In Europe, I take trains from country to country whenever possible, to avoid flying. Glad you're home safe and sound, despite your misadventure with the fire ants!
Some journeys seem particularly long and tiresome. Your haiku described that type of journey perfectly.
I don't see any positive comments in the bunch, and mine won't be either. Hate it, pure and simple. (Flying that is, love the haiku). Surely someone could figure out a way to make flying reasonably pleasant(and not too expensive would be nice).
